BCRF Grantee, Dr. Silvia Formenti, Receives Honor from Home Institution

BCRF grantee Silvia C. Formenti, MD was honored at the NYU Cancer Institute Gala on the evening of Tuesday, October 5, 2010. She was recognized for her contributions to cancer care and research.

In her remarks, Dr. Formenti spoke about the rewards of being an oncologist where she has the privilege of seeing "the very best of human nature - courage, dignity, grace, and humor even when pain and distress seem overwhelming." Furthermore, she encourages her fellow oncologists to "become the bridge between the laboratory and the patients" so that greater progress can be made to overcome cancer.

Dr. Formenti is the Sandra and Edward H. Meyer Professor of Radiation Oncology, the Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and co-leader of the Breast Cancer Research Program at NYU Langone Medical Center. She has been a BCRF grantee since 2001.
