Breast Cancer In The News: A New Study Suggests Additional Treatment Options For Some Breast Cancer Patients
The news reported on February 8, 2011 about avoiding unnecessary surgery to remove lymph nodes when radiation and/or chemotherapy have been shown to eradicate cancerous cells opens new options for some breast cancer patients. This finding, resulting from a large scale study, reflects BCRF's credo that research saves lives and is key to the development of new and better treatments. It is our hope that follow-up studies will continue to further substantiate or modify the findings.
BCRF is currently supporting research projects aimed at better understanding cancer biology so that doctors will be able to advise patients — on the basis of their own specific cases — as to the most effective, least life-disrupting therapy options for them.

BCRF grantee, Olufunmilayo (Funmi) I. Olopade, MB, BS, FACP, honored by President Barack Obama
On February 24, 2011, President Barack Obama announced the appointment of five new members to the National Cancer Advisory Board. The new appointees include BCRF grantee Dr. Olufunmilayo (Funmi) Olopade, Walter L. Palmer Distinguished Service Professor of medicine and human genetics, associate dean for global health, and director of the Center for Clinical Cancer Genetics at the University of Chicago.
