Ouidad

Response provided by Peter Wise, Director

Q. Tell us a little about Ouidad?

A. Ouidad has basically pioneered the curl category in hair care for the past 20 years. She has written a successful book, Curl Talk, created an award-winning product line, runs a very successful salon in NYC and regularly educates stylists across the United States about her signature "Carving & Slicing®" cutting technique. This technique is designed to eliminate frizz and allow curls to fall into one another like puzzle pieces -- creating well-defined ringlets, rather than hair that stacks out like a pyramid.

Q. What is Ouidad's purpose in creating a breast cancer cause-related marketing program?

A. In 2002 Ouidad was diagnosed with breast cancer, the same disease that took her mother's life. Fortunately, Ouidad was treated and made a full recovery but she vowed to never let recovery be the end of the battle. The purpose of the program is to raise awareness and funds to fight the cause year-round. More importantly, Ouidad wants to empower friends, family and even the community to take a stand against breast cancer every single day because the battle can only be won if the effort is consistent and clear.

Q. Why are the Ouidad pink products a good match for breast cancer?

A . Ouidad's Curls for a Cure foundation not only matches each donation amount dollar for dollar, but also offers donators the ability to wear their heart on their wrist with a trendy pink bracelet embossed with "Curl for a Cure". More than a "pink product", Ouidad's approach is a commitment to defeating breast cancer in an interactive, personal way.

Q. What are Ouidad's goals for the BCRF campaign?

A. Ouidad's breast cancer initiatives are not just geared toward awareness during the month of October, but rather year-round. The Ouidad website encourages education, awareness and donations throughout the year. Currently, Ouidad has raised almost $130,000. The goal is to raise $250,000 by the end of 2007.

Q. Why is breast cancer research important to Ouidad?

A. As a breast cancer survivor herself, Ouidad understands the importance of the cause. Finding a cure and empowering others to take a stand against the disease is extremely important to Ouidad.

Q. Why did Ouidad choose The Breast Cancer Research Foundation rather than another breast cancer charity?

A. The answer is simple. Trust. Ouidad knows that a dollar given to the BCRF will go farther in the fight for a cure than it would at any other organization. The money donated from Ouidad works harder at the BCRF.

Over 85% of the money we raise and donate to BCRF goes directly to research doctors and public awareness. That alone puts them in a very small circle of foundations - breast cancer or otherwise.

In addition, Ouidad was attracted to the fact that BCRFcure.org does research on the doctors themselves and then writes the check directly to the research doctor - no matter where they are in the world. Some of these doctors, whether they are in the US, Latin America, Europe, or Israel, would have no other place to turn to for funds to continue their cutting edge clinical or genetic research.
